Parent Connectors 2024 - 2025

A PJ Library Connector is the face of PJ Library in their community, helping families strengthen relationships with one another and the local Jewish community. PJ Library in New York is actively recruiting Parent and Grandparent Connectors to create regular, low-barrier gatherings and Jewish experiences, connecting families raising Jewish children (from birth through age 5) in their neighborhoods or affinity groups.

This part-time role is flexible and offers a chance to welcome and connect all kinds of families raising Jewish children. The application is available HERE.

PJ Library in New York is seeking the following Connectors for the 2024-25 term:

  • Neighborhood-based Parent Connectors throughout New York City, Long Island, and Westchester County.
  • Affinity Connectors throughout the New York metro area. Affinity Connectors will support families holding (including but not limited to) LGBTQ+, single-parent, multi-racial, Sephardic, or Mizrahi identities.
  • Grandparent Connectors throughout the region to support multigenerational programming.

A PJ Library Connector is:

  • A passionate ambassador for PJ Library, sharing PJ Library with all families they encounter.
  • Excited to meet, welcome, and get to know families raising Jewish children.
  • An excellent communicator and listener; excels at relationship building.
  • Enthusiastic about Jewish life and excited to infuse Jewish themes into gatherings.
  • Interested in facilitating and participating in new opportunities for peers to meet each other.
  • Self-motivated, curious, and open to new ideas.
  • Able to work independently, as well as part of a team.
  • Understanding and respectful of the range of Jewish connection and knowledge among parents.

A first-year PJ Library Connector will be paid a total of $3,000 annually (for work September through June, with an option to work in the Summer) and will receive an annual programming budget of $500 to pay for approved programming materials. PJ Library in New York will provide marketing materials, training, professional development, and a supportive cohort experience for our Connector group. The Connector programming year runs 9/15/24 to 6/15/25, with an optional summer block of 6/15/25 to 9/15/25.

Connector Responsibilities:

  • Every three months (quarterly), host six+ gatherings (i.e. playground meetups, stroller walks, informal home-hosted playgroups, library story times, parents’ nights out, Shabbat gatherings)
  • Every three months (quarterly), have six+ one-on-one interactions with fellow parents (coffee dates, play dates, and meaningful touchpoints) and/or attend relevant partner events.
  • Check in by phone with their supervisor at least monthly.
  • Keep a record of gatherings and family interactions on a provided Google spreadsheet and send an invoice to their supervisor once every three months.
  • Attend in-person Connector orientation on 9/17/24 and in-person and virtual gatherings/trainings throughout the year.
  • Once per year, table at a partner organization event (i.e. Hanukkah party, Purim carnival).
  • Once per year, check in with the Family Engagement Manager for a mid-year review.

Position requirements:

  • Available to work a flexible schedule, including weekends.
  • Able to represent PJ Library in New York in a professional manner at all times.
  • Regularly spends time in the neighborhood where they’ll serve.
  • Able to provide their own transportation to events.
  • Able to create new, low-barrier Jewish experiences, and provide PJ Library-inspired Jewish content to families raising Jewish children (from newborns to 5 years old).
